The machines are used to manufacture artificial sand. The artificial sand is the alternative for river sand and the river sand should be protected for nature balance. Grit (Rubble less than 10 mm) is the by product of stone industries which can be economically converted as artificial sand. Vertical Shaft Impactor (V.S.I.) is the machine used for converting grit / half inch rubbler to artificial sand. V.S.I. are also used for manufacture of better quality stone products (Rounded, Rubble / Half Inch Grit) which is the requirement of ready mix concrete industries. Working of VSI ( Vertical Shaft Impactor) VSI means Vertical Shaft Impactor and is similar to centrifugal pump. Particular sizes of stone are feed in the center of rotor and same stones are thrown away from rotor. The thrown out stone from high-speed rotor gain kinetic energy and peripherals speed 60m/sec approx. around rotor axis. There stones with high momentum hit each other and metal block and parts of material feed out side the rotor in the crushing chamber. The final stone breaking / rupture is due to impact in crushing area. Thus, disintegration takes place and the said moving stone particles fall down due gravity towards conveyor belt and then with vibration screen separation of material is done and oversized re-feed in the rotor. Various aspects of VSI Stone on Stone Rotor feed and side feed Rotor and Crushing chambers are so designed that stone layer gets formed on the crushing chambers which act as breaking walls for stone coming out of rotor at the same time. Stone feed from the side of rotor also act as breaking walls for stone coming out of rotor. In the construction wear cost is considerable low however production rate is low. Stone to Metal Crushing In the crushing chamber high wear resistive and good impact metal block/anvil ring is located which act as breaking wall for the stone coming out of rotor. At the same time rotor side feed stone also act like breaking wall. In the case, due to metal wear cost is more however production rate is very high. Various aspects of VSI Primary stone shaping and not crushing, hence heavy size reduction is not possible in the process. Final reduction is achieved in three to four passes even more passes for hand stone The more passes result shaping and final product is more cubical than other crushing The more passes require more recycling load and more energy is consumed in recycling the materialThroughput capacity of machine is approximately 5 times in put capacity. This means of VSI of 100 T.H.P. Throughput capacity will have 220 T.H.P. Out put capacity, therefore while selecting re- circulating system one has to select on the basis of throughput capacity of machine Uniform uninterrupted feed give more output and shaped cubical product Ensure no oversized material is through the machine, which can result in heavy wear part damages and heavy blows to rotor and some tomes heavy breakdown and heavy losses In some machines higher rotor speed is selected for finer products In VSI material, on material flow is continues and hence wear/tear of part is low as compared to conventional impactor The higher capacity VSI twin motor drive should properly design for the required sharing cycle In VSI, Lubrication is most important with proper temp. indicator and proper external cooling whereas is possible. Negligence on lubrication may result in heavy breakdown and losses Power connected to VSI is important and its over loading/under loading is directly proportional to out put capacity. Hence, for more out put should not taken even through machines gives Wear, tear and electricity cost is unavoidable, and its calculation is to be studied in respect of final out put.
